The Bible speaks to us of “high places.” I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” “Unto thee I lift up mine eyes, O Thou, that dwellest in the heavens.” The eye that is lifted is the single eye of spiritual discernment. To vision in an upward direction is to see wholeness and completion, to behold the fields white, already for harvest. Spiritual vision is the light of the body and if thy eye be single, that is, looking toward the finished kingdom, thy body shall be full of light, which is wholeness. When we vision in an upward way, it is said that we have eyes to see and ears to hear. The receptive attitude is open to receive from the table prepared before him, awaiting his recognition and acceptance. So, let us lift up our eyes unto the hills, to the high place of the finished kingdom. Let us glorify him who hath sent us, so that we may be filled.Amen
The man Jesus referred to himself as “the Good Shepherd.” A good shepherd cares for his sheep, the ones who are in the fold. He loves them and he calls them by name. They hear his voice and they follow him for they recognize the shepherd. Christ dwells within. The invitation is to turn within and listen for the still small voice. Regardless of what we are going through, whether it is a time of celebration, or a time of difficult experience, the still small voice will never leave us nor forsake us. Christ identity is not diminished when we take on the human form. At any time, we may turn our attention in an inward way, and be consciously one with the Father. Steadfastly facing thee, means to acknowledge the one presence, it means to lift vision above the human condition. To follow the voice of the Good Shepherd is to enter the fold by the proper gate, to come under God’s laws and to live by grace. Thank you, God, for the revelation that this is so.Amen
The desire, to live the Spiritual Life, requires a willingness to be led by Spirit. The instruction is “leave all and follow me.” To be led by Spirit, is to listen to the inner voice. When we become quiet enough, and still enough, the way is made plain. Through inner direction, guidance and intuition, we are shown the way. The revelation, “God is,” is sufficient to meet our every need. In faith, we step out and do what is given us to do. And we do this, not according to our own understanding, but rather with the assurance “I go before thee making every crooked place straight.” There is no stress, nor strain, in living the Spiritual Life. There is only God. There is the Spirit of God in man, the Spirit of Life, Wisdom and Love, in man. It is God Presence that doeth the work. Let us choose this day to “leave all and follow him.” I lay down my human sense of life, and take up the Spiritual reality of Life, the Life that I am.Amen
In Luke 15:31 we read: “And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.” Many of us find comfort in this passage, for we have interpreted it to mean that “my own shall come to me.” We do not understand that the “my own” which “shall come to me” is contingent upon a state of consciousness which is absolute stillness and peace. All, that the Father has, is spiritual fruit, and it does not come to a human being in a material way. The one, who is willing to become still and know that “I” is the only reality, will receive the fruit of the spirit. My own which comes to me, does so, as attributes of my divine nature. My role is to turn within and claim my divinity, my spiritual reality. I live out, from within Being. Contained within the Son are the qualities and the attributes of the Father. Let us enter that place of absolute stillness and peace, leave all and follow the inner voice that calls us by name, this is my child in whom I am well pleased.Amen
Many of us have said that we wish to live “a spiritual way of Life.” We desire to find a way that is better than what the world has to offer, a way that is not subject to change and public opinion. Joel Goldsmith turned within and discovered “The Infinite Way;” Irwin Gregg shared his understanding of “The Divine Science Way.” To live a spiritual way of life requires surrender of a personal self. To live a spiritual way of life means to be led by Spirit. To be led by Spirit requires the attitude “speak Lord, thy servant heareth;” “not my way, but thine be done.” To live in a spiritual way is to experience God. It is the experience of living in God that allows us to look out on the world and not be touched or moved. The activity of Christ lifts us beyond the experience of daily living into a higher, finer idea of Life. Through prayer and meditation we find “our way”. When Spirit leads us, it does so from within Being. Be still and listen for the words that are meant just for you – this is “your way.”Amen
Intuitively, mankind understands that there is something greater than that which appears to be. In his attempt to discover that which is “greater,” his thoughts eventually turn in a spiritual direction. At first the search for God is done outside of us, we try to “find” God, get his attention, and draw him to us. The sincere seeker of Truth discovers another way. The English poet, Alfred Tennyson used these lines: “Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.” In our time of meditation, we give up the search for God. The realization is “I and the Father are One.” No need to get his attention, no need to attempt to draw him to us in some way. God is within our Being, closer than breathing, nearer than hands and feet. The omnipresence of God is our divine relationship. Jesus said “if you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” God reveals his presence in the silence, so let us be still, release our thoughts and listen. Listen to the still small voice, the greater “I Am” that dwells in you.Amen
The Book of John reminds us that all things were made by God; and without him was not anything made that was made. One power, one presence, there is none else. In our experience of daily living, there are times when we are tempted to believe in another power. There are times when we look out on our world and “seemingly” cannot find God. The key to understanding is the phrase “look out on our world.” Do not look to the world for your experience. We are instructed to “turn to God direct.” Focus and attention directed in an inward way, see only God, out of which all things were made, to which nothing can be added nor taken away. This very day, we may choose whom we will serve. The man Jesus said that he had “overcome the world.” He overcame the idea that the world had anything to do with him. He knew his Father, he was consciously one with this presence and that was his sufficiency. This too is our experience.Amen
Mankind longs for certain things and when they appear to be lacking, he searches in various ways to find them. We all say that we want peace, joy and love in our lives. We want to be healthy and prosperous. We have been told we are to live the abundant life, intuitively we know this is the life we are to live. Our mistake is looking to the world for our fulfillment and satisfaction. Mankind‘s longing is done in a material way, and he will continue to search in this way as long as he thinks of himself in a material way. Human hood is separate and apart from God -- one cannot know the other. You are not the man of the dust, but a child of God. You are not separate and apart, but rather, One with every good thing. There is but one Selfhood and it reigns alone. We are this Selfhood -- taking on physical form does not negate spiritual being, the reality of us. Let us take a moment to acknowledge the Presence that lives us and moves us. I am One with Thee, there is none else.Amen
In our time of experience, we notice that Life does not always “happen ” according to our wishes. We plot and we plan, based on what it is we think is best for us, and sometimes we find ourselves falling short of our desires. We have been advised not to rely on man whose breath is in his nostrils. This man is you, and this man is me. We cannot depend on this man of material form, or on his human thought, for he simply does not have the wisdom required to know what is best. In deep humility, let us admit that we of ourselves can do nothing. Give no thought to the material form, drop all personal thoughts and ideas. And in the stillness let us realize “I am empty; fill me Oh, Lord, for I know not what to do. ” And out of the depths of your being, the answer will come. You are not alone, that which gave you Life, sustains and maintains you throughout eternity. Fear not; be not anxious, God knows what is best. You are not the man of the dust, but a child of God, rejoice and be glad in it.Amen
Mystics and sages have spoken of the here-ness and the now-ness of God. To speak the words “God is” acknowledges the omnipresence of God. God is -- not will be, but “is.” To perceive the presence of God, here and now, reveals that healing, love, and harmony are present now. It is not a matter of changing bad into good, sickness into health or poverty into riches. When you acknowledge the Allness of God as the only existence, you will perceive the activity and law of God as the only reality. There are no ups and downs, no rich or poor, no sickness or health, just the presence of God as every good thing. And there is no judgment. What is there to judge? To “see” in this way is to know God aright. To attain the mind that was in Christ Jesus is to “see” spiritually, to behold the spiritual world, to live move and have being in the kingdom of Heaven. God is my sufficiency is my prayer of recognition, there is none else.
